Course Introduction

This course provides participants with a comprehensive introduction to Internal Audit (IA) governance, equipping them with the foundational knowledge required to understand how internal audit functions operate within an organization. Participants will explore the roles, responsibilities, and mandate of Internal Audit, with a clear focus on how governance structures guide audit activities, reporting expectations, and stakeholder engagement. The course also highlights how IA governance aligns with organizational strategy, risk management, and accountability.

Throughout the program, participants will examine essential IA governance documents such as internal audit charters, procedure manuals, and the code of conduct. They will gain practical insights into the relationship between Internal Audit, the Audit Committee, and the Board—including reporting expectations, meeting cadence, and best practices for preparing effective audit documentation. By the end of the course, participants will understand how strong IA governance enhances transparency, strengthens internal controls, and ensures value-driven audit outcomes.
