Course Introduction

Maintenance organizations often operate with a mixture of preventive routines, urgent repairs, inspections, and recurring interventions that have accumulated over time. The challenge is that not every asset carries the same operational importance, behaves in the same way, or requires the same maintenance approach. Applying excessive maintenance to low-risk equipment can waste resources, while insufficient attention to critical assets can increase failures, downtime, and operational exposure.

Boost Consulting & Training offers this course to help participants build maintenance strategies around asset criticality, failure behavior, operational consequences, and actual maintenance needs. The program moves beyond fixed maintenance routines to examine how organizations can segment assets, evaluate existing maintenance approaches, select appropriate intervention strategies, balance planned and reactive work, and continuously adjust maintenance decisions according to asset performance.

The main concept of this course is to direct the right maintenance effort to the right assets so that resources are used where they contribute most to reliability and operational continuity.

Course Objectives

  • Connect maintenance strategy with asset reliability and operational priorities.
  • Classify assets according to their criticality and consequences of failure.
  • Evaluate whether existing maintenance activities provide appropriate value.
  • Distinguish between reactive, preventive, condition-based, and predictive maintenance approaches.
  • Select maintenance approaches according to asset characteristics and failure behavior.
  • Balance maintenance effort, reliability requirements, and available resources.
  • Identify weaknesses and gaps within an existing maintenance strategy.
  • Develop an improvement roadmap aligned with asset performance needs.
