Course Introduction

Procurement functions are increasingly expected to move beyond transactional activities and contribute strategic value to organizations. With growing volumes of procurement data generated from sourcing, purchasing, contracts, suppliers, and operations, the ability to analyze data and extract meaningful insights has become a critical capability. Procurement analytics and big data concepts enable organizations to improve decision-making, enhance transparency, manage risks, and optimize spending.

To support this shift toward data-driven procurement, BOOST has developed the Procurement Analytics and Big Data Fundamentals course as a structured introduction to analytics concepts tailored specifically to procurement and supply management environments. This program is designed for professionals who are new to analytics and data-driven approaches and who need a clear, practical understanding of how data can be used to support procurement decisions—without requiring advanced technical or data science backgrounds.

The course focuses on building foundational awareness of procurement data sources, key performance indicators, basic analytical techniques, and the role of big data in modern procurement. Participants learn how procurement data is collected, organized, analyzed, and interpreted to support spend analysis, supplier performance monitoring, compliance, and strategic sourcing.

Through practical explanations, simple examples, and guided exercises, participants develop the confidence to engage with procurement data, ask the right analytical questions, and contribute to data-informed procurement initiatives within their organizations.
