Course Introduction

Projects rarely move from “on track” to “in trouble” overnight. More often, performance begins to drift through a series of small deviations: activities take slightly longer, decisions remain open, interfaces become slower, rework increases, productivity softens, dependencies shift, and short-term workarounds gradually become normal practice. Individually, these changes may remain within acceptable tolerances; collectively, they can move the project away from its intended trajectory long before conventional delay or cost-overrun indicators confirm the problem.

BOOST Consulting & Training presents Project Drift Detection and Recovery, a practical program designed to help project professionals recognize directional deterioration while recovery options are still available. The course develops the ability to establish a meaningful project baseline, distinguish isolated variance from accumulating drift, connect weak signals across different areas of delivery, identify the mechanisms driving the project off course, and design proportionate recovery actions that restore trajectory without automatically resorting to major replanning.

Course Objectives

  • Distinguish routine project variance from emerging project drift.
  • Detect weak signals that indicate deterioration in project trajectory.
  • Connect deviations across schedule, productivity, decisions, interfaces and rework.
  • Identify the underlying mechanisms driving cumulative drift.
  • Assess the severity and recoverability of emerging deviations.
  • Select proportionate recovery actions before major disruption occurs.
  • Build a practical system for detecting and correcting project drift.
