Course Introduction

In today’s fast-paced digital landscape, building software that is both highly scalable and inherently secure is no longer optional— it's a business imperative. Poor architectural decisions can lead to system outages, performance bottlenecks, and critical security vulnerabilities that compromise data and trust.

The Scalable Software Design & Secure Architecture course is a hands-on, scenario-driven program that equips software professionals with the principles, patterns, and practices to design robust, resilient, and secure software systems from the ground up. This 3-day intensive course blends modern architectural paradigms—such as microservices, event-driven systems, and cloud-native design—with core security principles like zero trust, defense in depth, and secure by design. Participants will learn how to make strategic trade-offs between scalability, performance, maintainability, and security while avoiding common anti- patterns.

Through real-world case studies (e.g., Netflix, AWS, Google), architectural modeling exercises, threat modeling workshops, and secure design patterns, attendees will gain the confidence to lead the design of systems that scale efficiently and withstand evolving cyber threats.

Whether you're building enterprise applications, SaaS platforms, or distributed cloud systems, this course provides the architectural foundation to deliver software that is both powerful and protected.

Course Objectives

  • Apply architectural principles for building scalable, maintainable, and resilient systems.
  • Select and implement appropriate architectural styles (monolith, microservices, serverless, event-driven).
  • Design systems for horizontal scaling, load balancing, and fault tolerance.
  • Integrate security into architecture using Zero Trust, least privilege, and secure communication.
  • Perform threat modeling using STRIDE and DREAD frameworks.
  • Apply secure design patterns (e.g., API gateways, service mesh, circuit breakers, secrets management).
  • Protect data in transit and at rest using encryption, tokenization, and key management.
  • Secure APIs, authentication, and inter-service communication in distributed systems.
  • Evaluate architectural trade-offs using quality attributes (performance, security cost, agility).
  • Align software architecture with compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, PCI- DSS).
