Organizations today operate within complex governance, risk, and control environments where multiple functions provide assurance over the same risks, processes, and controls. Internal audit, risk management, compliance, quality assurance, external audit, and management controls often operate independently, leading to overlaps, gaps, inefficiencies, and unclear accountability. Assurance mapping has emerged as a powerful tool to address these challenges by providing a structured view of assurance activities across the organization.
To support a more integrated approach to assurance, BOOST has developed the Assurance Mapping course for professionals who already have a foundational understanding of governance, risk, and assurance and are ready to apply a more strategic and coordinated perspective. This intermediate-level program focuses on how assurance mapping supports effective governance, improves coordination among assurance providers, and enhances confidence for senior management and boards.
The course explores the principles, methodologies, and practical application of assurance mapping. Participants learn how to identify key risks, map assurance providers and activities, assess coverage and reliance, and identify assurance gaps or duplication. Emphasis is placed on using assurance mapping as a decision-support and governance tool rather than a purely technical exercise.
Through structured frameworks, applied examples, and hands-on discussions, participants develop the skills needed to design, interpret, and use assurance maps to improve assurance effectiveness, resource utilization, and organizational transparency.
